Speech On Visit to a Zoo
My visit to a zoo was a part of our family vacation in Guwahati, Assam. We reached there the day before we went to the zoo. We stayed in a hotel there and the next morning we started our sightseeing. The zoo we visited was the largest of its kind in the area and it was named Assam State Zoo.
It was established long ago in 1958 and since then it has been expanded and modified with time. It covers a pretty large area of approximately 432 acres. Assam state zoo is located within the Hengrabari Reserved Forest in Guwahati.
It has a clean and beautiful campus and is home to many indigenous and exotic species of animals. Although there are exotic species brought from different parts of the world, it focuses more on indigenous species.
We could see many animals and birds there. We paid the entry fee at the counter and it coasted ten rupees for each person and twenty rupees for each camera. We were directed not to feed the animals anything. They mentioned us that in an attempt to do that, fierce animals such as the bear or tiger have created some disasters before by tearing the person into pieces before anybody could rescue them. Also, we were warned not to cross the warning grills.
Then we proceeded towards the zoo. I saw a few animals live for the very first time. The tiger, black bear, rhino, etc. were much bigger than I thought they would be. The bear was sleeping and the tigers were simply sitting. It seemed they were fed very nicely and they were in a mood to rest.
Then we saw the very rare hillock gibbon, whose main habitat lies in my hometown Tinsukia itself. Though It was in the zoo, where I actually saw it.
A big python was caged too and I was really afraid when I saw such a big snake. I have seen in movies and discovery channels how they coil around animals to crush them and then they swallow. So those pictures were coming alive in my mind. I quickly clicked a photo and disappeared from that scene as I am very creepy about snakes.
Then, I saw the peacock. I wanted to take a picture of when the male peacock will spread its wing. But it did not do that.
We roamed around the zoo for one and a half hours or so and took pictures like that. And then finally it was time to go. Coming back from the zoo though I was feeling good, I felt another thought arising in my mind that those animals can’t speak. Though we thought they were happy they are in captivity and most wild animals love to hunt themselves. Well, as long as they are kept well zoo culture is not that bad. Thing is that a replica of the wild habitat must be made. Animals in concrete are the same as humans in Jungle. Both are equally uncomfortable.
We went for lunch at a nearby hotel and then to other places in Guwahati.
