Martin Luther King Jr. was born on 15th January 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He studied at the Boston University, Morehouse College Crozier Theological Seminary. He was a Baptist Minister and a social activist, who led the Civil Rights Movement in the United States from mid-1950 until his death by assassination in 1968.
He was inspired by advocates of Non Violence such as Mahatma Gandhi and sought for African Americans, economically disadvantaged and victims of injustice through peaceful protesting.
He was the main driving force behind Montgomery Bus Boycott and the March on Washington, which helped bring about such landmark as the Civil Rights Act of 1965. King was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1964 and is remembered as Martin Luther King Jr day, a US federal holiday since 1986.
He was the man behind the ending the legal segregation of African American citizens in the south and other areas of the nation, as well as the creation of civil rights act in 1964. He fought against racial prejudice.
His contributions are much respected by the whole of US. It was a very important period of shaping the rights and voice of the blacks.
