Essay On Peacock : A group of peafowl is called as party or a pride consists of male peacock and female peahen. Its royalty and divinity made them to be a part of Indian mythological tales. Its rich religious impact in Indian tradition and well distributed spectacular beauty truly made them a nation icon. So in 1963 peacock was declared as the National Bird of India.
In Hindu religion its a sacred bird because the spots of its tail ‘train’ consider as the eyes of Gods. Beyond from Hindu mythology there is an ancient association between the first major empire ruled in India Maurya dynasty 321 to 185 BC by Chandragupta Maurya. According to Jain tradition he was the grandson of a village head of peacock -tamers.(mayura -poshaka). According to Buddhist writers the region from which Mayura came was ”full of peacocks ” (Sanskrit origin). This may be the another reason why the peacock is called as national bird of India.
They are not just look handsome ,they are very cleaver too. They can fly but not very far. They shed their trains every year after mating. Their life span is 20 years average. Breaded peafowl are called leucism which lost their pigmentation due to genetic mutation.so its colour is white.Peacocks are ground feeders that eat insects,plants, and small creatures.
As an ornamental bird , the peacock is a staple resident of many of the world zoo.
